Dear Sir
I am convinced I am well qualified and experienced for the post of assistant travel agent which you have advertised in the Handelsblatt.
I am twenty years of age and was born of a Belgian father and German mother in Brussels, so I am bilingual and also understand Flemish well. I came to Germany when I was ten and have been living in Düsseldorf ever since. I was a pupil at a French-speaking primary school and then at a Waldorf school in Ratingen which I left with a GCSE (General Certificate of Secondary Education) or, according to the German Ministries of Education, "Secondary General School Certificate". I am now attending the Volkshochschule (VHS), a countrywide German adult education centre, to get my "Fachoberschulreife", which will qualify me for high school.
Since my twelfth birthday I have travelled a lot, both with my parents and alone, so I am familiar with the customs and mentalities in most European countries. I was able to improve my school English during several travels in Britain and Ireland. I have also worked as a travel guide for American tourists. We will be staying in London for a few days during the Summer holidays, so it will be easy for me to make a visit for an interview.
I enclose copies of testimonials from XYZ, where I did a practical training last year, and would like to refer you to Mr. NN, my present headmaster, for further information.
I hope you will grant me an interview to get a picture of my lingusitic competence and general knowledge.
Yours faithfully
John P. English
